Willunga Race 3 Wrap up.
Written by Hocks
Monday, 12 May 2008

Wow, what a weekend, some of the best racing Willunga & Vines Race 3 2008on a glorious autumn day, a great track to race, thanks  to all the track builders. We had 255 riders competing, with second runs for Under 19’s and Elite adding another 37 runs, we basically pumped 300 riders down the race track in record time finishing with still time to see ya mum for a lamb roast. A huge thankyou to the track marshals, starters and finish volunteers, the drivers, great to see so many new faces out helping.

A big welcome to all the new Downhillers, great to see you supporting the sport and club, be sure to spread word on the thrills and spills that every race weekend brings. Check out the results

What a finish for the Elites, with both Mark Fay and Steve Marsh finishing in exactly the same time to the 100th’s of 1 second, well done guys a great race. The top 10 Elite all finished within 4 seconds of each other and the top 20 were just 7 seconds apart. The biggest category of riders goes to the Under 17’s with 39 riders and then Elite with 32.

A few other close finishes, within Expert men, top 3, Ryhs Heard, Brett Slater and Scott Clarke being 11/100th’s apart, as well as Vet B’s with top 2, Kym Boxall and Paul Nelson being 23/100th’s great racing and Vet A’s with Darren Hobby piping Garry Patterson by 14/100th‘s. The riders are bringing close competitive racing to an ever growing sport and it is only going to get tougher to grab a win, keep up the practice everyone and we will see you all at Eagle only 4 weeks away on the 7th and 8th June. To all new riders check out details here.

Huge thanks also to John Wilson and son James who do so much with the Mega trailer and for all of you that see so much happening around, don’t stand around, please offer your support, helping putting up marquees, collecting rubbish. One gripe we have, when you finish with a drink, please carry the ‘empty’ to a rubbish bin and dispose of it thoughtfully, especially when you are given one for free. If you are up on the race track, jump on it and squash it and put it in your pocket and dispose of later, a little thought and appreciation will be respected. If you leave it behind a committee member will end up picking it up – don’t you think we have enough to do, maybe we will start imposing the $200 fine for throwing rubbish!  HELP, somebody was good enough to change a flat tyre on one of the 4WD's, however we cant find the wheel brace, if anyone knows where it went, please email the club please, see <Contact Us> on left hand side of web page. thanks.

Round 3 - Willunga Update
Written by Hocks
Wednesday, 30 April 2008

Willunga is Round 3 and is on the 10th & 11th May see map and race details, go to race calendar on left hand side of web page and once again much needs to be sorted. How about being a volunteer, what about free race entry for you, or a family member and $20 towards petrol? Have a vehicle with a tow bar and don’t need your tow bar for your bike/s? Then please call Chris on the Club Mobile 0419-790-122. Also we need Track Marshalls and Drivers for Transport and General, such as helping put the registration tent up and down, along with the starting and finishing marquee's along with setting up tables and chairs at all 3 locations, plus many other roles.

The race track as mentioned is a new track, the line will take the next ridge over from where we raced last year and finish opposite the car park near the bottom on the next ridge over. The transport will use the same road, so please no parking on the gravel road to the top, please park in the designated car park, sheep yards car park, turn right from the entrance road into the race area. This is all on PRIVATE PROPERTY so no pre riding or practicing of any sort can be performed.

For updates on race meetings, please go to Race Calendar to the left of your screen, see recent updates on Round 1 of the MTBA national Series, local events dates and times.

Round 2 - Ararat a brief Synopsis
Written by Hocks
Monday, 28 April 2008

Another great race weekend away was had by all, with over 195 competitors racing off against each other.Discussing pinning the InsideLine

<< SEE RACE RESULTS >> The racing was concluded by 2:50pm, now that would have to be a record and wasn’t it great not to be packing up in the dark, just the rain, oh well we can’t have everything. So a big thankyou to all those that helped, including all the new faces, parents and the usual crowd a big big thanks. Thanks to the committee for organising a great race away.

It does seem that the race track has more than lived up to its expectations offering techy sections, off cambers, rock gardens, log jumps, dust and then rain and the usual. A big thanks to the Under 19’s and Elite finalists for walking back up the track and collecting up the bunting, I hear at the top of the track it was a site to behold, for once the bunting was cleared within 20 minutes of the last rider, let’s keep up the team spirit of helping out.Congratulations to all competitors for making the travel arrangements and pinning it hard core down the hill and well done to those that made podium. Thanks to the Queenslanders for joining in and taking a few podium positions away and also to those Vic’s that came out. Some interesting events, Connor trying to do a ‘chainless’ run and heading over the handle bars at the start, Elliot for dropping in a sideways finish and cleaning up and breaking the finish reflector beam cover plate you better ask Liam how that’s done without cleaning up infrastructure, and we also learned to next time move the finish tent further away from the track so the ‘Elite’ riders stop throwing mud at the finish timers. We counted at least 6 riders finishing and a few that didn’t make it to the bottom due to flat tyres, sounds like those maxxis tyres will come in great use, though hard to win a new one on a flat. We had 2 flat tyres on the trailers as well, though the trailers held up well despite the long distance for turn-a-rounds, maybe that 4th trailer can be organised now.

A note on upcoming events, Willunga is a heartbeat away, so polish up your bike and prepare to race again on a top track that is different to last years and is ready to race. Car park is in the same place as last year, not much difference between start and finish, just the bit in the middle.
