Well after mother nature let us all know who's boss by completely washing out round 2 at fox bowl all riders (with exception of the crime cycles crew ) were kept biting there nails waiting for there next racing experience of 2009!
Saturdays practice started with the usual track inspections revealing some very exciting changes including the new section after the maxxis jetty jump which consisted of only one berm this year followed by a tricky hip and then a small double into the legendary road gap. Another inclusion to the course would see us jumping the final table top, an option that hasnt been used in a few years due to numerous days of bad weather before the events. But we were lucky enough to hold off the rain this year and the jump would finally be used.
A notable absence this year came in the form of Craig Yates, due to unknown reasons the winner of round 1 would not be contesting round 3, it would be interesting to see who would take his place and confirm themselves as a major player in the ongoing 2009 south australian downhill series.
Mt Torrens is known to riders as a very physical race, there is no place to rest on track, it is 1 and a half minutes of total chaos. Every pedal stroke, every rock, every root, every millimetre your in the air too long is another milli second that you lose. And with times coming down to the millisecond, you cannot afford to make these mistakes!
Alot of questions were still unanswered from round 1. Could troy brosnan come back from the devastating events that unfolded during round 1 which saw him suffer a rear flat tyre after qualifying 1st in elite. could jack payne repeat his blistering form of last year before numerous injuries took him out of junior team selection. And after putting 7 seconds into the panozzos on their home track of mt beauty could australian junior team rider will gower mix it with the big boys in elite. all questions would be answered come sunday afternoon.
saturdays practice started as per usual riders frantically pushing up trying to get in enough practice to ensure they put in there best run come race day, everyone talking lines with each other all trying to find the fastest way down the hill. spectators were treated to a show during the day as some of the top riders were gapping the whole jetty instead of doubling it. a move that would certainly reward the brave but had frightening consequences if not excecuted perfectly.
sunday came around all too quickly and yet another day of racing was upon us. first up was the U19s and qualifying in the number 1 position was round 1 2nd place getter and fastly becoming a known face at the top of the results sheet, isaac thomas. 2nd was james shepherd and rounding out the top 3 was jack payne. after crashing mid run round 1 winner connor fearon was situated back down in 9th position. elites next and known for his fitness dave west did not disapoint qualifying 1st in front of troy brosnan and will gower taking 3rd spot. jaz rosa racing her first elite womens race qualified in 1st showing promise for the finals. after crashing in the switchbacks sarah booth had to settle for 2nd place hoping she could change the result come finals time.
in the U17s it was grant womersly who would take the win with a very impressive 1:36. karl von sanden powered his way to 2nd place and sean heywood smith grabbed the last spot on the box.

Round 1 saw us head to arguably the most popular track of the series willunga. The track basically consists of high speed corners the whole way down with some nasty rock gardens in the middle and a few doubles which prove to be rather difficult with the strong winds that are always present on the hill due to there being absolutely zero trees on the track.
